Uganda Shines on PPP Programs in Health Sector as Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero Flags Off Delegation to University of Lahore.

Uganda’s health sector has taken a significant step forward in embracing Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) to enhance service delivery and supplement the government’s efforts. On September 8th, 2024, a delegation of three people from Lira City was flagged off to the University of Lahore by Hon. Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, Minister of Health / Woman MP Lira City to explore strategic approaches to PPPs in the health sector.

The delegation comprised esteemed individuals, including Mr. Bonny Okello Alele, Assistant Resident City Commissioner of Lira City and Director of Corporate Affairs and International Relations at Uganda Christian Institute (UCI), Sam Omara, Director General of UCI, and Hon. Sam Engola, Senior Presidential Advisor.

The delegation was warmly received by Professor Awais, founder of the University of Lahore, marking the beginning of a fruitful collaboration. Hon. Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero emphasized the need for Ugandan institutions to appreciate PPPs in the health sector, highlighting their potential to supplement health services in the country. The delegation’s first engagement was with the nursing department and teaching hospital of the University of Lahore, where they explored opportunities for collaboration and knowledge sharing.

Uganda’s health sector has made significant strides under the leadership of Hon. Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, with a focus on providing effective institutions and human resources. The government’s policies, such as PPPs, have created an enabling environment for private entities to support government establishments and enhance service delivery to the people of Uganda. Mr. Bonny Alele Okello, ARCC Lira City, stressed the need for private entities to support government establishments, echoing the government’s commitment to economic transformation under the leadership of Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

The partnership between Uganda Christian Institute and the University of Lahore is a testament to the power of collaboration in driving progress in the health sector. As Uganda continues to shine on PPP programs, the country is poised to make significant strides in enhancing health service delivery and achieving economic transformation. The delegation’s visit to the University of Lahore marks the beginning of a new chapter in Uganda’s health sector, one that promises to bring about positive change and improvement in the lives of Ugandans.
