Transforming Lives: It’s a new dawn for Nancy & Shaunti School for the Deaf as Dr. Aceng completes impactful renovation of the dilapidated Boys’ dormitory.

In a remarkable display of generosity and community spirit, Shaunti parents donated 18M shillings to support Nancy and Shaunti School for the Deaf, and Hon. Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero has made the most use of it! On July 15th, 2024, Charlene Turner, a close friend to Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero handed over the cash donation to her Technical Advisor, Ms. Emma Okite, setting in motion of a transformation journey for the school.

Upon her return to Uganda, Dr. Aceng Ocero convened a meeting with the school’s management and Board of Governance to prioritize the funds. The verdict: renovate the Boys’ dormitory, fix doors and windows, process the change of school’s name to include “Shaunti” and procure 31 double-decker beds to ensure a comfortable living space for the students. And what a transformation it has been!

As of September 5th, 2024, the renovation works are fully complete, giving the boy’s dormitory a stunning new look. The newly renovated facility is set to be launched by Dr. Aceng Ocero anytime she comes to Lira City, and later she will be joined by Shaunti’s parents and other stakeholders to witness the impact of their contribution to foster more partnership and synergy with the school.

But that’s not all! Charlene Turner, Executive Director of Solar Light for Africa has also installed solar lighting systems on both the primary and secondary sides of the campus, further enhancing the school’s infrastructure.

The management and Board of Nancy and Shaunti School for the Deaf have extended their heartfelt gratitude to Hon. Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, Minister of Health and Woman MP for Lira City, for her unwavering commitment and love for their school. They said Aceng’s selfless efforts have transformed the lives of their students, and they are forever grateful. They also appreciated the kindness and generosity of Charlene Turner and Shaunti’s parents, whose contributions have made a significant impact on the school.

The newly renovated dormitory and beds will provide a comfortable and conducive environment for the boys to focus on their academics. Dr. Aceng Ocero’s dedication to improving the lives of students at Nancy and Shaunti School for the Deaf is truly inspiring. As the school looks forward to future partnerships and collaborations, one thing is clear: this renovation has sparked a brighter future for the students!
