In a thrilling conclusion to the Awitong Cup tournament, Okarowok Wibye Acel clan’s Zone 1 ( Chawente, Chegere & Apac) emerged victorious, earning the top spot and a chance to represent the clan in upcoming matches. The tournament, organized by the clan’s youth minister, Mr. David Atyam, aimed to sensitize the youth and members of the clan about teenage pregnancy and early marriage. According to Atyam, the turn up was good and this signifies how the youths of the clan like sports.
The event, held at Ambalal Primary School in Lira City, brought together players from different zones, who competed in a series of matches to determine the best team. After a rigorous selection process, by the Finance Minister of the clan Muzee Anthony Ayo, a 25-man squad was chosen to represent the Okarowok Wibye Acel clan in future competitions.
The squad, dubbed OWA FC TEAM, will face off against INOMO clan FC on September 14th at Lira Town College. In preparation for the match, the team will reconvene on September 11th for a training camp.
Dr. Laury Lawrence Ocen, the clan head, has been instrumental in promoting sports as a tool for reaching out to his subjects and addressing social issues such as early marriage and teenage pregnancy. His efforts have fostered a strong bond between the Okarowok Wibye Acel clan and other clans, including INOMO.
