Following a recent surge in gun violence, residents of Minakulu sub-county are calling for the establishment of two police outposts to address growing insecurity concerns. The latest incident involved two individuals, Oola Danie and Oola Vincent, who were shot and injured at a local bar.
During a stakeholders’ meeting held at Minakulu sub-county headquarters, locals requested the additional police presence. Ojuka Fab’s offer to donate land for a police post at Mitacoo trading centre sparked the demand. The district police commander, Sp Job Mutegeki, expressed support for the initiative, pledging to work towards reducing insecurity in the area.
Benson Walter Dilla, LC5 chairperson of Oyam, vowed to take drastic measures against those destabilizing the region’s peace. Simaon Ayela, LC3 chairperson of Minakulu sub-county, emphasized the need for intensified security efforts, citing previous gun attacks. Martin Okello Mawa, internal security officer for Minakulu sub-county, attributed the rising insecurity to parental and clan leadership failures.
Okello noted that two individuals were arrested in April for gun-related cases but were released without notice after being transferred to Oyam CPS. This incident highlights the need for improved law enforcement coordination and community engagement.
The Uganda Police Force has demonstrated commitment to addressing security concerns, as seen in their efforts to dismantle rebel groups and apprehend suspects involved in violent crimes. By establishing additional police outposts, Minakulu sub-county can work towards reducing insecurity and promoting a safer environment for its residents.
