In a bold stance, the Lango Anglican Community has vowed to boycott Radio Unity 97.7 for three months, demanding public apologies from Hon. Minister Betty Amongi and DJ Onapa Cool for their scathing attacks on Bishop Prof. Alfred Olwa.
The controversy erupted when Minister Amongi, during a broadcast on Radio Unity, launched a verbal assault on Bishop Olwa, sparking outrage among the Anglican faithful. DJ Onapa Cool, the radio’s proprietor and host, was accused of complicity in the attack.
Between 11 pm and midnight, Lango social media forums were inundated with demands for a total boycott of Radio Unity. Anglican priests, Christians, and leaders united in their condemnation of Minister Amongi’s actions, calling for unconditional apologies from the duo.
“We cannot allow a leader of Minister Amongi’s caliber to exploit religious divisions in Lango,” stated a prominent Anglican leader. “Bishop Olwa is our highest office and custodian of our faith. You cannot attack his innocence and walk away unscathed.
The Lango Anglican Community remains resolute in their demands, insisting that Minister Amongi and DJ Onapa Cool issue public apologies to Bishop Olwa.
“Radio Unity will pay heavily for this cheap propaganda and abuse of our Bishop,” warned a community member. “We will not tolerate dirty politics and indiscipline in our midst.”
The boycott serves as a direction to the community’s commitment to protecting their faith and leaders. As one Anglican faithful remarked, “We will stand united against those who seek to divide us.
