Reports have surfaced that Hon. Betty Amongi Akena, Woman MP for Oyam, allegedly fabricated the outcome of Lango NRM MPs’ meeting with President Museveni, sparking widespread skepticism among Lira City residents. The meeting, held last Friday, aimed to address concerns over Amongi’s decision to leave Oyam and contest in Lira City. However, her agents’ attempts to disseminate false information on social media and local radio stations have fallen flat.
According to a reliable source, an MP who attended the meeting, President Museveni emphasized three key resolutions:
- UPC’s Criticism: The President urged the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) to refrain from claiming that the National Resistance Movement (NRM) has achieved nothing in Lango, expressing annoyance at such statements.
- Sectarian Politics: Museveni stressed the need to shift focus from sectarian politics, including tribal and religious divisions, to politics centered on the people’s interests.
- Servant Leadership: The President encouraged leaders to prioritize serving the people, rather than pursuing personal agendas. He also announced plans to hold discussions with Akena’s family and later with Amongi and Aceng.
Despite Amongi’s efforts to deceive, Lira City residents remain unwavering in their support for Hon. Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, perceiving her as a more credible leader. The people’s trust in Aceng has only been strengthened by Amongi’s alleged deception. Many residents have expressed skepticism over the circulated reports and continue to rally behind Aceng.
The incident has raised questions about Amongi’s integrity and her ability to lead. By allegedly fabricating the outcome of the meeting, she has compromised her credibility and damaged her reputation. In contrast, Aceng’s commitment to serving the people has earned her the respect and trust of Lira City residents.
The people of Lira have seen through Amongi’s alleged deception and remain committed to supporting a leader who prioritizes their interests. As the city looks to the future, it is clear that integrity, servant leadership, and a focus on the people’s needs will be the guiding principles for its residents.
