Executing International Assignments with Excellence: Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero Shines as she joins other ministers to discuss community health.

Uganda’s Minister of Health, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, continues to make waves both locally and internationally. Currently in New York for the United Nations General Assembly, Dr. Aceng joined forces with fellow Ministers of Health from Sierra Leone, Burkina Faso, and Malawi to discuss a crucial aspect of community health: the Pro Community Health Worker (ProCHW) policy.

Organized by @join_chic on the sidelines of #UNGA79, this event highlighted the importance of community health workers (CHWs) in building a robust health system. As Dr. Aceng emphasized, CHWs are integral to the health service system, and focusing on community health and workforce development is key to creating a winning health workforce.

A seasoned expert in public health, Dr. Aceng brings a wealth of experience to the table. With a background in pediatrics and public health, she has served in various capacities, including Director General of Medical Services and executive director of Lira Regional Referral Hospital.

Her commitment to community health is evident in her work. Dr. Aceng has published numerous research papers on topics such as Ebola virus disease outbreak preparedness, vaccination programs, and the impact of facemasks on reducing the spread of COVID-19.

Some of her notable research works include: The Ugandan Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome – Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) Model, Estimating the Effect and Cost-Effectiveness of Facemasks in Reducing the Spread of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome-Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in Uganda, Family Health Days program contributions in vaccination of unreached and under-immunized children during routine vaccinations in Uganda.

As Lira City’s MP and Minister of Health, Dr. Aceng’s dedication to improving healthcare in Uganda is unwavering. Her participation in international forums like the UN General Assembly demonstrates her commitment to sharing expertise and learning from others to create positive change.
