LIRA, July 19, 2025 — The quarterfinals of the 2025 Dwog Pacu Cup kicked off in spirited fashion today at the UTC Lira Playground, with Lira City West thrashing Maruzi Constituency 4-0 to become the first team to qualify to Semifinals .

But beyond the goals and cheers, it was the tournament’s commitment to environmental sustainability that stood tall—literally.‎‎

In line with this year’s powerful theme “Plant More Trees,” the tournament organizers awarded 15 tree seedlings to the Man of the Match, Kiria Christopher, in a bid to promote tree planting across Lango sub-region.‎‎

The Public Relations Officer of Dwog Pacu Cup, Abel Ogwang, announced that this initiative will continue throughout the tournament.

“Every Man of the Match from now until the finals will receive seedlings as part of our green campaign. This is our way of combining sports with environmental responsibility,” Ogwang said.

‎‎He also revealed the tournament’s cash prize breakdown:‎‎

Quarterfinalists – UGX 500,000 each‎‎

Semifinalists – UGX 1,000,000

In today’s match, City West displayed exceptional dominance. Ogwal Rafael Zeno (jersey 61) opened the scoring, followed by Gum (jersey 9) to end the first half 2-0.

Substituting in during the second half, Kiria Christopher—a former top scorer in the South Sudan Premier League—struck twice to seal the deal for City West.‎‎

Both teams received two yellow cards in the otherwise electric but disciplined match.‎‎

Kiria Christopher, now signed with Wajuma FC in South Sudan, expressed gratitude for the seedlings he received.

“I appreciate the Dwog Pacu management for this thoughtful award. I urge our fans to keep supporting us as we aim for the trophy,” he said.‎‎

Christopher previously played for Koryom FC, where he won the 2024/25 Golden Boot with 30 goals (24 league, 6 League Cup), and his return to local football through the Dwog Pacu Cup has reignited interest in regional talent.‎‎
