Lira, Uganda | July 6, 2025 — In a move that has reenergized football stakeholders across Northern Uganda, FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo officially reappointed Dan Obote to the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) Executive Committee as the representative for the Northern Region, following Magogo’s landslide re-election to lead Ugandan football for a fourth term.
The announcement, made during the official unveiling of the new executive lineup at FUFA House in Mengo, was met with widespread approval from regional football enthusiasts who see Obote’s return as a signal of continuity, trust, and deep-rooted commitment to grassroots development in the north.
“Dan Obote has been instrumental in bridging the gap between FUFA and Northern Uganda. His voice has been firm in championing youth football, infrastructure rehabilitation, and talent identification,” Magogo stated while introducing the committee.
“We are building a new era of football—an era rooted in inclusiveness, excellence, and national pride. Northern Uganda must be part of that transformation, and Obote remains central to that vision.”
A former Uganda Cranes international, Obote brings not just experience but a passionate connection to the communities he serves.
Addressing a vibrant crowd at Lira Town College Grounds shortly after his reappointment, Obote was visibly emotional.“This is not just a position; it is a mission. A mission to ensure that the child playing barefoot in Agago, Gulu, or Otuke gets a chance to dream. I promise to amplify the voices from the north and fight for the investment our region deserves,” he said.
Obote also pledged to roll out a strategic football development plan tailored for the region, including the revival of inter-district tournaments, the creation of structured academies, and improved training for coaches and referees.
The reappointment comes at a time when the Northern Region is experiencing a renewed sense of football enthusiasm, with several local clubs making strides in regional competitions and schools actively participating in national tournaments.
Other prominent figures in attendance, including FUFA 3rd Vice President Florence Nakaziba and Northern Region referee coordinator Robert Acaye, echoed their support for Obote, citing his honesty and accessibility.
“Obote listens. He shows up. He walks the talk. As a region, we’re lucky to have him,” Acaye remarked.
Social media platforms across the region have since been flooded with congratulatory messages, with fans and sports journalists hailing Obote as “a servant of the game” and “a true football patriot.”As Magogo’s new term kicks off, all eyes will be on the FUFA Executive Committee to see how they deliver on their promises.
But for Northern Uganda, the reappointment of Dan Obote offers something rare in Ugandan football politics—hope wrapped in familiarity and proven service.
