‎Kampala, Uganda – July 22, 2025‎The long-awaited renovation of the Kyambogo University training pitch has officially been completed, marking a significant milestone in Uganda’s preparations to host the upcoming continental football tournaments—CHAN 2024 and AFCON 2027.‎‎

The state-of-the-art facility was constructed by the UPDF Engineering Brigade under the supervision of the National Council of Sports (NCS) and the Ministry of Works and Transport.

The project now meets Confederation of African Football (CAF) standards, positioning it among Uganda’s premier football training grounds.‎‎

The newly refurbished pitch features a natural grass playing surface, modern floodlights, perimeter fencing, two fully equipped dressing rooms, an advanced irrigation system, an athletics track, and a standby generator to ensure uninterrupted power during evening training sessions.‎‎

While inspecting the completed facility, State Minister for Sports Hon. Peter Ogwang lauded the quality of work and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering world-class sports infrastructure.

“This is a milestone in Uganda’s journey toward hosting successful international tournaments. Kyambogo is now ready to welcome top-tier teams,” he said.‎‎

The training pitch will serve as one of the key venues for teams preparing to compete in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) and the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), both of which Uganda will co-host.

The completion comes just in time as teams prepare for pre-tournament camps and acclimatization.

‎‎This development is expected to boost sports tourism, support local talent development, and showcase Uganda’s readiness to host international events with modern facilities.
