Lira — July 22, 2025‎‎Mentor St. Mary Magdalene Campus today held a vibrant dual celebration to honor the Feast of St. Mary Magdalene and to officiate the Prefects Handover Ceremony.

The event attracted students and staff from the Akwayo and Gwengabara campuses and was graced by the Senior Education Officer of Lira City, Mr. Nixton Peter Ocen, representing City Education Officer Mr. Ogwang Andrew Oyang.‎‎

The day commenced with a solemn Mass led by Rev. Fr. Francis, who delivered a compelling homily urging Christians to mirror the steadfast love Mary Magdalene had for Christ.

He called on the faithful to extend love to all — including the sick, mentally ill, and strangers — just as Mary remained loyal even beyond Christ’s death.

‎‎Following the Mass, attention turned to the official Prefects Handover Ceremony. In a speech delivered on behalf of Mr. Ogwang, Mr. Ocen reminded the audience of Ogwang’s roots in the Mentor system, having taught there from 2011 to 2014.

The message praised the school’s continuous growth and emphasized the need for unity among students, staff, and administration.

Newly elected prefects were urged to champion discipline, teamwork, and effective communication.‎‎Mr. Ocen also encouraged students to embrace the revised national curriculum with open minds, stressing that adaptability is vital in today’s evolving educational landscape.‎‎

Headteacher Ms. Grace Angom welcomed the visiting delegations and applauded the outgoing prefects for their dedication and leadership.

She assured the incoming student leaders of her full support, advising them to lead with integrity. To the outgoing Senior Six prefects, she offered a charge:

“Don’t abandon leadership; take what you’ve learned and lead in your families, communities, and beyond.”‎‎

A representative of the Board of Governors echoed similar sentiments, hailing the outgoing prefects — particularly Head Prefect Tracy — for their outstanding maturity and leadership potential.

He encouraged all students to cultivate their talents, whether in academics, sports, or leadership, for holistic development.‎‎

He also lauded the Mentor group of schools for their consistent academic and co-curricular excellence, noting their growing impact in raising Lango’s regional profile.‎‎

The day concluded with a ceremonial handover of leadership roles, symbolizing a smooth transition and reaffirming Mentor’s commitment to nurturing future leaders.‎‎‎‎
