Kumi, Uganda – Health officials in Kumi District have confirmed a measles outbreak following laboratory tests that revealed six out of ten suspected cases were positive for the virus.‎‎

According to District Health Educator Mr. Adae, the alarming results prompted immediate action, leading to the official declaration of an outbreak across the district.

‎‎He called upon communities in Kumi and the wider Teso sub-region to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspected cases of measles or symptoms resembling the infection to the nearest health facility.

‎‎In response, the District Health Office, with backing from the Ministry of Health and its development partners, is rolling out an emergency immunization campaign focusing on children below the age of five in the most affected areas.‎‎

Residents have been strongly urged to ensure their children are vaccinated and to minimize participation in crowded gatherings to prevent further spread of the disease.‎‎

Dr. Ongola, a senior health official, noted that the campaign will rely heavily on the involvement of Village Health Teams (VHTs), local leaders, and schools to spread awareness about immunization and proper hygiene practices.‎‎‎
