Lira, Uganda | July 7, 2025 — The Resident City Commissioner (RCC) of Lira, Lawrence Egole, on Monday morning ordered the arrest of two notorious women identified as Suzan Acam Okwir and Aguti Susan after they attempted to defraud staff at the Immigration Office in Lira City under the guise of seeking urgent government assistance.
According to Egole, the suspects — repeat offenders — falsely claimed that Suzan was a Presidential Assistant and tried to use her alleged status to manipulate immigration officers.
The duo had reportedly approached the office with the pretense of needing urgent help, but their real intention was to con unsuspecting individuals.Egole revealed that this is the third time these women have been arrested for similar fraudulent schemes.
He accused them of habitually exploiting the names of high-profile individuals including President Yoweri Museveni, General Salim Saleh, and officials from the Internal Security Organisation (ISO), to swindle money from innocent citizens.
“In 2022, these same women were arrested for soliciting money from locals, claiming they could connect them to meet the President and Gen. Salim Saleh. Again between March and April this year, they were caught in Bar-Onger attempting a similar trick,” Egole told journalists.
He explained that concerned community members alerted authorities, prompting him to deploy police officers who apprehended the suspects.
Their previous case files were forwarded to court, and they had just been released from remand last week on Wednesday.“But instead of reforming,” Egole said, “they resumed their con activities the very next day. By Friday, they were already in Unity FM asking for Shs.1 million from DJ Cool, promising him a connection to meet the President.”
Egole added that the pair managed to escape after plans were made to arrest them at the radio station, but they were later found at the Lira Immigration Office trying to execute another scam.
He warned the public across Lira and the greater Lango sub-region to be on high alert and to never hand over money to anyone claiming to offer presidential access or government connections.
“No one pays to meet the President or Gen. Salim Saleh,” Egole stressed. “Any such arrangements are made through official channels. These women have no ties whatsoever to the Office of the President or any security institutions.”
The suspects are now in police custody and further legal proceedings are underway.
