Oyam District | July 8, 2025 — The National Resistance Movement (NRM) joint campaigns for party primaries are in full swing across Oyam District, with both excitement and tension rising as candidates face varied reactions from the electorate.
In Aber and Loro subcounties today, the political atmosphere was charged with emotion as voters openly embraced or rejected candidates based on past performance and personal connections.
While some aspirants were met with indifference or outright hostility, others received warm welcomes, underlining the complex dynamics of loyalty and accountability in the district.
One of the standout moments came from Woman MP aspirant Jane Frances Acilo, who was joyously received by residents. Known for distributing maize seeds earlier this year, Acilo’s generosity has earned her strong grassroots support.
In a show of gratitude, residents presented her with maize, goats, and praise for “planting hope” in their lives.
“Helping the electorates is the power of investing in each other,” Acilo said.
“When we lift up our neighbors, the whole community rises.”
Acilo, who is aiming to become the first NRM Woman MP for Oyam in over 15 years, pledged to champion development in education, agriculture, and healthcare, while promoting transparency in governance.
Despite the cheers for Acilo, other candidates experienced friction with voters who demanded more accountability from those seeking re-election or returning after long absences.
As the primaries progress, it is clear that Oyam’s electorate is demanding more than promises — they are looking for proven action, humility, and continued presence in their communities.
The joint campaigns are expected to continue across more subcounties throughout the week as the NRM prepares to select its flag bearers for the 2026 general elections.
