Otuke, July 2, 2025 — In a vibrant show of support and political energy, Hon. Julius Acon, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Otuke East and Chairperson of the NRM in Otuke District, officially kicked off his campaign for the forthcoming NRM primaries set for July 16, 2025.
Amid cheers and chants from residents, Acon laid out a development-driven manifesto rooted in equity, transparency, and service.
Speaking at his maiden rally in Alai Ward, Acon did not mince words about the challenges faced. “We were supposed to start on July 1, but the party didn’t facilitate us,” he revealed, citing a lack of financial backing from the NRM secretariat.
“My fellow aspirants have already gone ahead individually. One of them told me joint campaigns are meaningless if others are left to struggle,” Acon said, referring to Hon. Omara Paul, Hon. Abeja Susan, and Hon. Richard Omara Awio.
Despite the rocky start, Acon’s message was clear: he’s ready to fight for Otuke’s future.“If you trust me again, I will support our local groups with goats—because animal rearing is our backbone,” he vowed, triggering applause from farmers and youth. He also blasted corruption in war claim compensation.
“It’s unacceptable that data cards are being sold. The money meant for Lango war claimants must be shared fairly,” he stressed.
Among his key promises, Acon pledged the drilling of a borehole in Alai Ward this month, alongside upgrades at Christina Health Centre, including a maternal theatre and staff training.
He urged the community to vote wisely: “If you want development, vote with your heart and your mind.”The rally drew endorsements from local leaders and residents alike. Former critic Sam Oweka Iyen declared a turnaround in support: “Acon is the most prominent leader Otuke East has had.
Let’s re-elect him and support me for LCV—we must coordinate our development efforts better.”Hon. Francis Otyama, LC3 Chairperson of Olilim and fellow LCV aspirant, came to Acon’s defense over road conditions. “One billion shillings has been released. Otuke has the equipment.
Let’s be honest—Acon has done his part,” he stated.CP Okullo, NRM Chair for Alai, called Acon “the only sun shining over Otuke East” and appealed for more boreholes and a nursery school in the area.
On the ground, residents shared heartfelt stories. Atim Joan praised Acon’s consistent seed distribution and inclusiveness. Youth coach Oriba Denis hailed him for using football to unite and empower young people.
“He responds to all calls, without discrimination,” Denis affirmed.Lydia Akullu, a tailoring trainee, lauded Acon’s youth programs and urged for expansion into hairdressing and other vocational skills, saying many young women are eager to join.
As the primaries draw near, Acon’s campaign kicks off with momentum, clarity, and a promise of people-centered development. For many in Otuke East, he remains not just a leader—but a symbol of hope.
