Lira City – June 25, 2025At a press briefing held today at KK Champ Sports Centre, Kenneth Kaunda Okwir, Chairperson of the Central Organizing Committee for the prestigious Dwog Pacu Cup, officially announced a change in the tournament’s kickoff date.
Initially scheduled to begin on July 7, 2025, the highly anticipated Cup will now commence on July 12, 2025.Kaunda expressed deep appreciation to the media team for their unwavering support and commitment in helping ensure the success of the tournament. “We’re grateful for your continued dedication in amplifying our message and building momentum for this year’s edition of Dwog Pacu Cup,” he said.
Explaining the change in schedule, Kaunda cited financial constraints as the major reason behind the postponement. “Several constituencies raised concerns about not being able to meet the deadline for paying affiliation fees. We had earlier offered a one-week grace period, which ends today, June 25,” he said.
He revealed that 14 constituencies have already paid their fees and will be considered in the tournament draw. However, in a show of flexibility, organizers have decided to extend a final two-day bonus period for those who have not yet cleared their dues. “Failure to pay within these two days will force us to redraw the fixture with only the teams that have paid,” Kaunda warned.
The venues for the tournament have been confirmed as UTC and Lango College playgrounds, ensuring quality pitches for what is expected to be a competitive and vibrant football showcase.Meanwhile, Joanan Okello, Secretary of the Dwog Pacu Cup, echoed the call for urgency in fulfilling financial obligations. “Timely payment is critical.
Teams that delay risk missing out on essential preparations like receiving their jerseys in time,” he emphasized.Okello also encouraged all participating teams to mobilize their supporters in large numbers. “Let’s make this year’s edition even more exciting and memorable. The Cup is not just about football; it’s about community pride and unity,” he added.
As anticipation builds, organizers remain confident that the 2025 Dwog Pacu Cup will deliver thrilling action and foster grassroots talent in the Lango sub-region.
